Palo Alto Battlefield; Brownsville, TX.
In 1846, U.S. and Mexican armies clashed at this site of broad prairie known as Palo Alto. The battle was over the disputed boundary between Mexico and Texas. U.S. forces numbered 2,300 while the Mexican army had 3,200 men. Led by General Zachary Taylor, The U.S. forces were victorous and suffered relatively few losses.
